Born in 1080 in Portugal, was a rich nobleman of the five major families of Entre-Douro-e-Minho of the 12th century, whom Henry, Count of Portugal, entrusted the education of his son Afonso Henriques, a task that gave the nickname by which he became known. Egas Moniz, from ancestors Goths, was son of Monio Ermiges, also descendant of King Ramiro II of León, and Abdallah ibn Muhammad of the Umayyad dynasty.
